Smoking: I agree that if you want to cut off the last, worst years of your life that you should be allowed but I think you probably touched on the real issue when you brought up seat belts, John. The problem is not just the insured, it's the un-insured as well. When they get sick, who pays for them -- we do. We pay for their medical expenses as well as having dead weight in the society that someone has to feed -- and that someone ends up being us. That's why things like the needle exchange in NYC was such a brillian plan -- would you rather pay a couple dollars a year for new needles or tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for someone getting AIDS from a dirty needle. It sounds sick at first but the math works -- and, if I'm not mistaken, you two know a little something about math.
