We join a religious blog just for kicks. Wendy answers the call. "There's no such thing as the truth." Wendy describes the 3 days in job hell she had before unemployment. Give my credit card back you phuck! The sounds of episiotomy. Madge the vadge. Anybody remember Wizzo from Chicago Bozo? "I have flash paper in my wallet right now." Is he a nutbag or not? "I want a major disaster."

Hey John, I read that book as well. The Brief History of Nearly Everything. It was great!
I'm currently reading "Why the toast always lands butter side down: The scientific reasoning behind Murphy's Law". Pretty interesting.
Also, there's a great book I'm about 1/2 way through (audio book) called "The Know-It-All" by A. J. Jacobs...it's about a guy who read the entire encyclopedia. Grab it from Audible. I know you'll dig it.
Oh yea, and I had a creepy/weird dream last night that I was in high school being stalked by people that wanted to kill me….oddly, Wendy kept trying to phone me wherever I was hiding to warn me ahead of time that the bad people were almost on me. Oddly, I had explosive farts all night long so my "Wendy's saving me" dream was interrupted by ass blasts…that sucked…I was hoping to get dream-laid….or at least a dream-blowjob…damn farts…
Still loving the show. I listen to every one! Keep up the great work!
That's funny, Corby, because frequently and ironically, Wendy's dreams are interrupted by MY ass blasts! If you ever dream-lay Wendy, I expect dream compensation, say a dream-million dollars. I'll look into those other books too. I'm realy enjoying the Bill Bryson book. :D
J.
love the show. almost bought bill brysons book (i've been eyeing it for quite some time) until i read that bryson himself admitted he got a lot of it wrong and it was very anecdotal. give us a critique when you are done with it!!
i'm an expat living in norway, originally from the midwest and listening to the two of you totally reminds me of home. wendy's drawl and inability to speak in complete sentences cracks me up. "anyways" (ha ha), i'm glad i found the two of you. very entertaining show.
Thanks for the comments! You've piqued my interest about Bryson now...where did he say he "got a lot of it wrong"? It seems like most of it is pretty straight forward knowledge of all the physical sciences...damn!
In fact, all I'm finding is quotes much like this:
Bryson may have returned to the primordial swamp of scientific ignorance, but those who count are impressed. One top scientist jokingly referred to A Short History of Nearly Everything as "annoyingly free of mistakes", and Bryson's credentials are high within the academic community. The book won the Royal Society Aventis prize for popular science in 2004, and only a couple of weeks ago he was a guest at the Royal Society of Chemistry's reception at the House of Commons.
said interview was in "new scientist" magazine in may 2003. i couldn't read it as i'm not a subscriber. i most humbly site my source for criticism from the amazon.com website. it was enough to make me skeptical (take a look at the poor reviews). while everyone seems to agree that it's well written, the word anecdotal frightened me. that's why i'm interested on your take once you are finished.
here (norway) the book has been marketed towards freshman college students. do you feel that is an accurate audience or is it also useful for educated adults as well??
Hi folks. First time poster.
Whew. I was gonna jump in saying "yes, the Bryson book's cool; time I relisten." Then I saw the "oops, I dood a baaaad ting" comment [my paraphrase] attributed to Bryson.
Glad to see the clarifications, cuz I really liked it.
I think that magic deck is called a "Svengali" deck. It's on an infomercial? You can get it in any magic shop (bricks and mortar or online). Probably way cheaper than on TV. Also, lots of aftermarket videos, etc. are available.
You mentioned Penn (looooove dat dude; great podcast radio show; but "Free" FM? We can say anything we want...except swear words).
The connection: just visited PennAndTeller.com. Saw they've got a magic deck for sale (but couldn't find it on their store page).
They're offering free tips online on how to use it in a password protected section of the site.
The weird thing: the card backs have pix of P&T. If you're doing a card trick, you're kinda "tipping your hand" that it's not a standard deck if it's got pix of magicians right on the card.
File under "duh".

"Meat and electricity". Well said.
"Love" is triggered by a surge in Phenyl Ethyl Amine. We're all just animals. But we're at the top of the food chain!
'K. That's it for now.
ciao for niao,

Part of your discussion was giving "neil" a break because he is mentaly unstable.
What about a child molester? SOme believe it is mental instability that causes them to act that way. Do we give them a break too?
If by "break" you mean less punishment if their mental state can be shown to be unstable and leading to an inability to either know right from wrong or to be incapable of controlling their actions, then yes. This doesn't for one second make the crimes any less heinous, it means their actions were not deliberate. I personally don't believe child molesters are "crazy", but have somehow associated sex with kids and they can control if they want to. In this case, kill them, I say.
