thanks for talking about the book again. bryson was probably being nothing less than self-deprecating in the interview with "new scientist" magazine given that he is known as a travel writer. i was about to buy the book but the review at amazon frightened me so i appreciate your feedback very much. i almost gave up and bought "areas of my expertise" by john hodgman, an almanac of oddities albeit, completely fake (very geeky, that one). i'll buy bryson's book and leave you alone now.

I am a bit embarrassed that I didn't realize that this was fiction. I had a faint memory so I just figured "this must have actually happened".
